Do you remember?

by

Do you remember?
That lazy summer’s day?
When a few sleepy raindrops
Cradled by the sky,
Rolled over and fell down
From their soft beds?
You do remember, don’t you?
How they landed on your cheek?
How gently you woke them up,
With that sweet smile of yours?
How the spark in your eyes
Made the sky applaud?
You may not remember
But the wind, the sky,
And the sun do.

Do you remember?
When trees shed their leaves,
To weave a crimson carpet
Between your feet and the dirt,
For you to dance on?
You do remember, don’t you?
When the autumn wind
Took your hand,
Gently grabbed you by the waist,
And swayed and twirled,
While leaves made music
By rattling and cracking
Beneath your soft feet…
You may not remember
But the wind, the trees
And their leaves do.

Do you remember?
When you felt cold and blue?
When flakes of snow dropped by
To say “hello”
On your ice-cold window?
You do remember, don’t you?
They drew a forest for you,
To remind you of your home.
You thanked them by gifting
The warmth of your hand,
Your imprint on the forest,
To show them where you belong —
In the green, in the dirt,
In the woods and in the snow…
You may not remember
But the cold, the frost
And the forest do.

Do you remember?
When you fell asleep
Deep beneath the ground?
When the earth embraced you
And claimed you as her own?
When your laughters
And your tears,
Your smiles and your blues,
Your freckles and your scars,
Became flowers of bright colours
To rise up and greet the sky,
The sun, and the moon,
And waved to the stars?
And the stars waved back?
You do remember, don’t you?
When the bees came to hum
The songs of life?
When butterflies kissed you
On your petals with their wings?
You may not remember
But the bees, the dirt,
The vines, the leaves,
The sky, the sun,
The stars, the void,
And the time do.
